Kelvin Atkinson Statement on Romney’s Yucca Doublespeak Las Vegas, NV – Nevada Assembly Commerce Committee Chair Kelvin Atkinson released the following statement on Mitt Romney’s campaigning with staunch Yucca advocate Nikki Haley in South Carolina while telling Nevadans he opposes Yucca: “Sadly, it isn’t surprising Mitt Romney would campaign with a fierce advocate of keeping Yucca open after telling Nevadans last year he opposes the project. This is only the latest in a long series of doublespeak from Mitt Romney because he will say and do anything to get elected. Romney trying to have it both ways on Yucca highlights the clear choice Nevadans have between President Obama who wants to create jobs and keep Yucca closed, and a Republican like Mitt Romney who can’t be trusted to shoot straight with Nevadans.” ROMNEY ENDORSEES IN SOUTH CAROLINA SAY HE SUPPORTS YUCCA
Haley Said Romney’s Support for Yucca Was a Reason for Her Endorsement: The Columbus Republic reported that Haley believed “Romney had the strongest call for proceeding with the nuclear waste disposal site at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, which is key for removing waste now stored in South Carolina.” [Columbus Republic, 12/16/11] Contact: Zach Hudson Communications Director Nevada State Democratic Party
